 | Postcards of Phyllis Dare 1890 – April 27, 1975 Phyllis Constance Haddie Dones - was three years younger than her sister. Like Zena she had been a child actress and became famous for her performances in Edwardian musical and comedy productions. Phyllis, devasted by the death of her fiance the composer Paul Rubens, in 1917, never married. Her stage perfomances and occasional film roles ended when she retired at 61. She died, aged 84, six weeks after Zena in 1975. |
|  | Postcards of Zena Dare 1887 – 11 March 1975 Florence Hariette Zena Dones was the elder of the Dare sisters. Famous for her performances in Edwardian musical and comedy productions. Her role in the Pantomime 'Peter Pan' is well documented in postcards of the time. During WW1 she spent three years as a nurse and did not return to the stage until 1926. She continued acting for over forty years appearing on stage, in films and TV. She is remembered for her successful work during the 1930s with Ivor Novello. |
